Last week, I participated in a writing challenge. I typically resist those kinds of things, but thought it would help my writing groove. I’m not sure my groove is any better. At the very least, it stirred my creative juices and I finished the challenge.
It pushed me in several ways:
- First, it was an Instagram writing challenge and I’m used to writing blog-length posts. It forced me to write shorter ones.
- Second, pictures or graphics are part of the whole Instagram thing. I liked that, though.
- Third, I don’t know if people are reading my posts. A like doesn’t necessarily mean a read, and some may be reading but not liking. Do people really go to Instagram to read about stuff?
To be honest, I’m not good at social media. I’m not even sure what it means to be good at it. If I had access to only one social media account I’d choose Twitter. I’ve met some of the most lovely people there. Some great friends, actually.
I use social media for the same reason I write. I write to share my thoughts and stories. My hope is that something I write will give you hope, make you think about something you never have before, unlock a memory, make you laugh or cause wonder, help you see someone in a new way, or let you know you’re not the only one. When I’ve done that, it’s a good and beautiful thing.
Anyway, the challenge……..challenged me and I’m better for it. I hate to think that you all were left out and didn’t see the fruit of my efforts so I’m sharing my favorites with you.
